Dawson Creek is "Mile Zero" of the Alaska Highway, built in 9 months during World War II. Fort Nelson is mile 300 — a required stage for anyone heading to the Yukon or Alaska.

The Mile Zero post in Dawson Creek is the iconic photo. Fort St. John (oldest non-Indigenous settlement on mainland BC, 1794), Pink Mountain, Sikanni Chief offer rest stops. Abundant wildlife: bison, bears, moose, caribou. Paved roads but services are sparse — fill up.
