Campbell River, Canada's salmon capital, and Telegraph Cove, one of the West Coast's last boardwalk villages, open access to the Northern Resident orca pods — the world's largest orca population.

From Telegraph Cove, zodiac into Johnstone Strait: orca viewing virtually guaranteed in July–August, plus humpback whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins and transient killer whales. The Whale Interpretive Centre displays an 18-m fin whale skeleton. En route, stop at Sayward and Elk Falls Provincial Park (suspension bridge, 25-m waterfall).
