The Itinerary
The Cowichan Valley, nicknamed "Canada's Italy" for its microclimate (up to 30 °C in summer), is Vancouver Island's oldest wine region. 17+ wineries, artisan cheese makers and cideries.
From Victoria, take the Malahat Hwy (panoramic Gulf Islands views) to Cobble Hill and Duncan. Sample Averill Creek, Blue Grouse, Unsworth Vineyards. Duncan is the "City of Totems" (80+ carved totem poles). Cowichan Lake and the Kinsol Trestle (restored railway bridge, one of the world's tallest wooden trestles) round out the trip.
