The Itinerary

Yellowhead Highway 16 crosses western Canada ocean-to-ocean; the BC portion between Kamloops and the Yellowhead Pass (Alberta border) for 430 km is one of Canada's least-travelled and most beautiful scenic routes — a quiet alternative to Highway 1 to Banff.

From Kamloops, Highway 5 (South Yellowhead) heads to Clearwater and Wells Gray Provincial Park (already covered). At Tête Jaune Cache, take Highway 16 east 80 km through Mount Robson Provincial Park. Mount Robson (3,954 m), the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, looms with its 3,000 m faces — visible from the visitor centre.

The Berg Lake Trail (23 km round trip, 800 m gain) to the mountain's base is one of Canada's most legendary multi-day hikes — reservations required. Mount Terry Fox Provincial Park honours the iconic runner. Valemount, a friendly base town, is famous for fall grizzly migrations and Mike Wiegele's heliski centre.
