The Itinerary
The Fraser Canyon, a spectacular gorge carved by the Fraser River, is one of BC's most impressive drives. The Trans-Canada (Hwy 1) hugs the rim and threads through a series of rock tunnels.
Hell's Gate (a 35-m narrowing of the Fraser) is the route's icon — an aerial tram descends into the canyon for a thrilling view. Yale was the capital of the 1858 Gold Rush. Lytton, at the Fraser-Thompson confluence, was destroyed by 2021 wildfires (reconstruction ongoing). Canada's all-time temperature records were set here.
